The Crown is a small 18th century (with a modern twist!) country pub set in the peaceful village of Catton just outside Allendale Town and within the North Pennines Designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
The pub has undergone some impressive changes this year, not least the fabulous window which opens onto the pubs garden. The Pub has without doubt a most impressive view of the Allen Valley. The Crown although quirky offers people the chance to meet, chat, drink and eat in a relaxing atmosphere and on those cooler evenings enjoy our roaring fire. Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome!
For the art lovers out there you’ll be pleased to know we display a range of work by local artists from the renowned Forge Gallery in Allendale, as if the view wasn’t enough!
The Crown in Catton is also home to one of the few bar billiards tables available in Northumberland. Bar billiards is played on a unique table with no side or corner pockets but with nine holes in the playing surface which are assigned various point values ranging from 10 to 200.
We don’t pretend to be something we are not. Our community and those that visit us want a Pub and not a restaurant, so that’s what we are. We do offer some scrumptious food though! The extensive menu is on blackboards within the pub and changes frequently.
A great deal of our food is home made and we avoid wherever possible using frozen supplies. We use our local grocer and our local butcher. We also have a good selection of vegetarian dishes. We have a small kitchen in the pub and prepare food in turn. “Nowt’s quick but it tastes good!” Booking is always advisable!
SUNDAY ROAST – Why not come and enjoy a traditional Sunday roast with amazing views over the Allen Valley, please call us on 01434 618351 to make a booking and avoid disappointment.
